Sergio Aguero fit for Liverpool trip

The FC crew debate whether or not Liverpool will be able to continue their great home form against Manchester City.

MANCHESTER -- Manchester City will welcome Sergio Aguero back for Sunday’s clash against league leaders Liverpool at Anfield -- but manager Manuel Pellegrini has insisted it is not a title decider.

• Cox: Is 'old school' Flanagan key to title clash
• Betting blog: Date with destiny at Anfield
Pellegrini: No regrets over Liverpool job
• Usher: Winning title would be greatest achievement
• Curtis: Liverpool vs. City through the years
• Phillips: Baby turtles on fire

Both Liverpool and City have their destiny in their own hands with Brendan Rodgers’ side, who have won their last nine league games, four points ahead of their visitors and Pellegrini’s side, who have two matches in hand, knowing that if they win their remaining seven fixtures, they will be champions.

But the Chilean, whose team then host Sunderland on Wednesday, insisted that the league will not be determined by victory at Anfield.

“I don’t think this decides the title,” he said at a news conference. “It is a very important game but it will not decide everything.”

And Pellegrini has vowed not to play for a point, adding: “We are not going to play at Anfield trying to draw. That is the most important thing.

“It is very important to win at Liverpool but I think by winning at Liverpool we win the Premier League, I don’t think so. We can beat Liverpool and after if we lose against Sunderland we are not going to win the title. Sunderland is in a relegated position and those teams are as difficult as Liverpool.”

City’s 26-goal top scorer Aguero has missed their last five games since injuring his hamstring in March’s 2-1 defeat to Barcelona.

And Pellegrini insisted the Argentine is fully fit, adding: “He worked the whole week with the squad normally. He doesn’t have any problems.

“He is very important. We know Sergio is a top player, he is a player that it is very difficult for the other defences to stop him so he is very important for us.

“You always miss important players like Sergio Aguero but I think we had a lot of other players injured also during the year and the squad had a good answer.”
