David Moyes pinpoints Bayern 'doubt'

Former Manchester United striker Henrik Larsson thinks fans should be more patient with boss David Moyes.

David Moyes believes Manchester United can prey on Bayern Munich’s doubts about their ability to beat English teams at the Allianz Arena.

• Honigstein: Guardiola style under scrutiny
• Schaaf: Do or die for both sides
• Okwonga: Moyes must break shackles
• Mitten: Hopes grow at home and abroad

The Scot’s United side enter the second leg of their Champions League quarterfinal against the Bundesliga holders with the score level at 1-1.

But while Bayern have a formidable home record in both domestic and European football, they have found victories hard to come by against Premier League opponents.

The Germans have only won one of their five matches against English sides at the Allianz Arena since United lost 2-1 in the quarterfinals in 2010.

Since then, Chelsea won the 2012 final on penalties after a 1-1 draw, Manchester City lost 2-0 in 2011 and won 3-2 in December 2013 while Arsenal triumphed 2-0 last season and held Bayern 1-1 in March.

And Moyes said in his news conference: “I think it would be something which is more in Bayern’s mind that the English teams have come here and got a good record.

“They will have that doubt in their mind. They are European champions, but they will have the games they have played against English teams in mind. We will try to use it to our advantage.”

However, City’s victory came after Bayern had already qualified for the last 16 while Arsenal’s excellent results both came in the second leg of knockout ties after the Bavarian side had won in London.

Meanwhile, United striker Wayne Rooney, who is prepared to have an injection on his injured toe to play, believes Bayern’s danger man is their captain, Philipp Lahm.

"Lahm is the one who makes everything tick. He is the one you have to stop," Rooney told Uefa.com.

United will be without centre-back Jonny Evans, who has not featured for the first team for two months because of a calf injury, but who made his comeback for the reserves on Monday.

Right-back Rafael da Silva, absent since the 4-1 win over Aston Villa, with a hamstring problem, and midfielder Marouane Fellaini did not travel to Germany and are also out.
