Dante: Man United still a big-game side

The FC crew discuss whether or not Manchester United have a chance at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday.

Dante has warned Bayern Munich that Wednesday's Champions League opponents Manchester United remain a force to be reckoned with in Europe despite their waning strength domestically.

United, last season's champions in England, have stumbled through their first Premier League season under David Moyes' management, but showed in the 1-1 first-leg draw at Old Trafford they can still hold the European champions at bay.

Dante, 30, told L'Equipe the Bavarian giants will be on their guard when they step out at the Allianz Arena for Wednesday's return.

"Even if Manchester United are going through a difficult time in the league, they still remain solid in big games," he said.

Unlike their English counterparts, Bayern have once again been strong both at home -- having already successfully defended their Bundesliga title -- and abroad.

Also through to the DFB Pokal semifinals, Bayern remain on course to repeat their Treble of last season, despite the retirement of Jupp Heynckes and his replacement by Pep Guardiola in the summer.

"Our great strength is that we know how to handle success," Dante added. "We don't speak about our Treble. It can happen that tempers get short, in training or in games, which shows that we're still just as hungry. If we don't rest on our laurels, it's thanks to the technical staff and Matthias Sammer, who has transmitted to us his hatred of defeat.

"Despite the enormous competition for places, no player sulks. Never. You only have to see the way in which we celebrate our goals. All the substitutes come and share in the joy."
