Adebayor keen on Sherwood stay

Tottenham first team coach Tim Sherwood played down rumours of his exit from the club after they beat Sunderland 5-1.

Emmanuel Adebayor has told Sky Sports he hopes Tim Sherwood remains in charge of Tottenham Hotspur.

• Fitch: Spurs talent shines against shocking Sunderland
• Brewin: Sherwood resigned to his fate with Spurs

Sherwood's future at White Hart Lane has been the subject of conjecture, which intensified after Sky Sports reported a decision to relieve him of his duties at the end of the season had already been made.

The club later dismissed Monday's speculation, before Sherwood, speaking after the 5-1 win over Sunderland, insisted his future in charge at White Hart Lane remained out of his hands.

"I think the boys were fantastic," Sherwood told Sky Sports after the match. "It was a setback gifting Sunderland the goal and it was a poor error to give them the goal but I think we bounced back well to score and we controlled the game and dominated.

"Any decision or questions regarding my employment you need to ask my employers, it's an honour to manage this football club and I'm honoured to do so."

He added in the Guardian: "My record has been very good; in the Premier League it has been second to none. In the Premier League, of any manager that has been here, my win percentage is higher than anyone."

Adebayor has enjoyed somewhat of a resurgence under Sherwood's stewardship and, following his two goals against Sunderland, backed his manager to stay on.

"I keep saying it and no matter what happens to the manager I respect him, I'm very happy to be back on the pitch scoring goals," Adebayor said.

"He has been a big part of my life, when everyone forgot me he brought me back in and gave me my life back. I hope he stays but I am not the chairman, I just need to keep focussed on the job in hand and scoring goals."
