Sherwood exit talk 'speculation' for now

Tottenham have denied claims that they will replace manager Tim Sherwood in the summer, regardless of what happens in their final six games of the Premier League season.

Tim Sherwood has been under pressure of late.

• Crace: More desire needed

Rumours surfaced on Monday that Spurs had already decided Sherwood’s fate, with current Netherlands coach Louis van Gaal ready to take over after the World Cup.

But shortly before Tottenham’s Premier League tie with Sunderland, a Tottenham spokesman said: "The board will meet with Tim, as would be normal, at the end of the season, to review how things have progressed. Anything else at this stage is speculation.”

Responding to reports from Sky Sports that the decision to axe him had already been taken, Sherwood had earlier said: "I can't say much right now. What I can say is tonight is business as usual. I'm setting this team up to win a football match for the benefit of the club and the 35,000 Spurs fans who will come and watch. I'll speak at a later stage."

Sherwood, 45, won five of his first six games after being appointed as Andre Villas-Boas' successor on an 18-month contract on Dec. 23. However, he has gone on to lose nine of his 22 games in charge as Spurs have slipped down the table and out of contention for the Champions League spots.

Southampton's Mauricio Pochettino, Ajax boss Frank de Boer and USA manager Jurgen Klinsmann also considered to be challengers for the position should it come open.
