Bayern Munich’s midfield options continued to dwindle ahead of the Champions League quarterfinal second-leg against Manchester United with an injury to Xherdan Shaqiri.

The Switzerland international suffered a muscle injury in his right thigh during Bayern’s 1-0 defeat at Augsburg.
The 22-year-old stayed in the dressing room at half time, and was replaced with Germany international Mario Goetze. In the evening Shaqiri was examined by Bayern team doctor Hans-Wilhelm Mueller-Wohlfahrt, who confirmed the news.
“The FCB chief medical officer diagnosed a badly torn muscle in the right thigh,” A statement said on Bayern's official website. “Shaqiri will be sidelined until further notice.”
Shaqiri is the fourth midfielder to become unavailable for selection by Pep Guardiola when Bayern attempt to take another step towards retaining their Champions League title against United on Wednesday evening.
Bayern Munich lost Bastian Schweinsteiger and Javi Martinez to suspension in the dying minutes of the 1-1 draw at Old Trafford in the reverse fixture last week, while Thiago Alcantara suffered a knee injury in Bayern’s 3-3 draw with Hoffenheim in late March, and is not expected to return before May.
