PSG close in on Ligue 1 title

Edinson Cavani celebrates with Gregory van der Wiel after opening the scoring against Reims.

Paris Saint-Germain took another giant stride towards retaining their Ligue 1 title with a routine 3-0 victory over outclassed Reims.

Johnson: Lucas Moura sparkles

Edinson Cavani opened the scoring in the 43rd minute after prodding home Gregory van der Wiel's pass, but the real damage was done by blundering Reims defender Aissa Mandi.

Mandi turned into his own net just three minutes into the second half with the ball hitting a post and deflecting in off the Algerian right-back. And Mandi looked on in horror as he was also at fault for PSG's third, this time scoring in his own net in the 89th minute of the contest as he attempted to clear a cross.

The one-sided win sees PSG open up a 16-point lead over second-placed Monaco at the summit, with the principality club in action at home to Nantes in Sunday's late game.

Third-placed Lille finished with nine players on the pitch but still defeated Toulouse 2-1 to close to within three points of Monaco.

Salomon Kalou inspired the victory by helping set up the opener for Nolan Roux before firing the second from the penalty spot.

In the space of a minute full-backs Franck Beria and Pape Souare were sent off, but Toulouse could not make their numerical supremacy count. It was only in the fourth minute of stoppage time that they managed to breach Lille's defence through Serge Aurier.

Bordeaux moved up two places to seventh despite being held to a 2-2 draw by Rennes at Stade Chaban Delmas.

The result was the fourth consecutive draw for the home side, who went two goals up thanks to efforts either side of the break from Guillaume Hoarau and Diego Rolan before Abdoulaye Doucoure and Romain Alessandrini struck back in five second-half minutes to clinch a point for Rennes.

Montpellier ended a five-match winless streak with a 2-1 victory at Guingamp that moved them an enormous step closer to safety.

An own goal from Jeremy Sorbon was quickly followed by a Benjamin Stambouli strike to put Rolland Courbis' men in the driving seat at the Stade du Roudourou.

Mustapha Yatabare's second-half reply gave Guingamp hope but they could not find an equaliser.

Bastia fought back from two goals down to earn a 2-2 draw against Sochaux that severely dents the Montbeliard outfit's hopes of avoiding relegation.

Visiting Sochaux had looked on course for their first away win of the season in Ligue 1 after scoring twice on the stroke of half-time through Jordan Ayew and Sebastien Corchia.

A victory would have lifted them to within six points of safety, but they were hit by a superb second-half fightback by mid-table Bastia, who earned a share of the spoils thanks to goals from Gianni Bruno and Djibril Cisse.

Lorient and Evian shared the points in a 1-1 draw that does little to ease either side's relegation jitters.

The hosts hit the front through Jeremie Aliadiere's sixth-minute strike but Evian pulled level with 20 minutes remaining through the impressive Daniel Wass.
