Bayern suffer shock loss at Augsburg

Bayer Leverkusen boss Sami Hyypia was sacked after his team's poor run of form, while Bayern Munich lost their first game of the Bundesliga season to Augsburg.

Bayern Munich sustained their first Bundesliga defeat since October 2012 as they succumbed to a 1-0 loss at Augsburg.

Schaaf: Bayern run comes to an end
Guardiola: No complaints over loss
Buczko: Great day for Dortmund
Hamburg 2-1 Bayer Leverkusen
Hyypia sacked by Leverkusen

The result -- which came courtesy of Sascha Moelders’ goal on 31 minutes -- marks a third successive game without victory for Pep Guardiola’s side, who were held 3-3 by Hoffenheim last weekend and then drew 1-1 at Manchester United in the Champions League.

Guardiola fielded an experimental side, in view of the second leg of the clash with United on Wednesday, and they produced a sub-standard performance, with Augsburg -- who boosted their chances of qualifying for Europe next season -- good value for the three points.

In the day’s late kick-off, Borussia Dortmund bounced back from defeat to Real Madrid in midweek by coming from behind to beat Wolfsburg 2-1 at the Westfalenstadion.

Wolfsburg crowned an excellent first-half display with the opening goal through Ivica Olic.

At that stage the Wolves were sitting in fourth place and on course for a place in the Champions League next season, but they were unable to hold onto their advantage for long as Robert Lewandowski and Marco Reus turned the tables in a much-improved second half for the Westphalians.

Werder Bremen and Schalke saw little change to their league positions after a 1-1 draw at the Weser-Stadion.

Bremen had found some light between themselves and the relegation battle following their last-gasp 2-1 win over Hannover last week.

They took the lead through Franco Di Santo, who also netted in the win over Hannover, but the hosts had to settle for a point on this occasion with Leon Goretzka levelling for third-placed Schalke in the first half.

Borussia Moenchengladbach boosted their Champions League hopes with a 2-0 victory at relegation-threatened Nuernberg on Saturday.

A first-half strike from Juan Arango and a Max Kruse penalty in the second increased the pressure on Gertjan Verbeek as his side dropped into the bottom three.

Two late goals handed Stuttgart a massive three points in a 2-0 win against local rivals Freiburg in the battle for Bundesliga survival on Saturday afternoon.

Substitute Alexandru Maxim scored the first on 69 minutes, and Martin Harnik sealed the victory a minute from time.

The result lifted Stuttgart back out of the bottom three and within two points of their visitors, after Hamburg's 2-1 triumph over Bayer Leverkusen on Friday night had seen them slip to 17th spot.

Eintracht Frankfurt took what could be a decisive step away from relegation danger with a 2-0 win over Mainz in a local derby on Saturday.

Joselu and the returning Alexander Meier scored the goals for Armin Veh's men, who moved eight points clear of the drop zone with five games of the season remaining.

Defeat dented Mainz's hopes of qualifying for the Europa League next season with three points separating them from sixth-placed Wolfsburg, who have a game in hand.
