Marotta: Napoli acted like small club

ESPN FC's Des Curran recaps the first leg of action packed quarterfinals in the Europa League.

Juventus general manager Beppe Marotta has ridiculed Napoli for their "small club" excitement after beating the Bianconeri at the weekend.

Rzouki: Inefficient Juve find a way

Speaking to reporters in Lyon prior to Juve's 1-0 win in the Europa League on Thursday night, Marotta could not help but make fun of Rafa Benitez's team, who he claims celebrated becoming only the second side in Serie A to beat the defending champions this season as though they had become champions themselves.

"We were a bit perplexed by Napoli's huge euphoria," Marotta said. "It was a win that they celebrated almost with the excitement of a small club; as if they had won the scudetto. I think that's very demeaning for a club of Napoli's size."

Juve looked particularly tired at the Stadio San Paolo, putting in arguably their worst performance of the season so far. They bounced back on Thursday at the Stade de Gerland, however, with coach Antonio Conte claiming he had "never been concerned" by his side's stumble on Sunday.

"My team always works hard and we did well even in the second half against Napoli," he told his postmatch news conference. "For me, the Napoli game is done with. I'm actually quite pleased to see that when sides beat us, they act like they've performed a miracle.

"We've been extraordinary for three years now and it fills us with pride when we see our opponents giving their lives against us. We've turned the page, just like we did after [losing to] Fiorentina. It's great news that when this Juventus lose, everybody talks about it. We know the pressure there is when you pull on this shirt, but we move on."
