Jeremy Menez planning PSG exit

Jeremy Menez has said he must leave Paris Saint-Germain if he is to achieve his ambitions in football and feels he has learned much from past mistakes.

Debuchy hints at PSG move

Menez, 26, has found himself condemned to a bit-part role as the French champions race towards a successful title defence and pursue their Champions League ambitions.

After the start to his campaign was ruined by a back operation, the France international midfielder has made just six Ligue 1 starts under Laurent Blanc, and looks unlikely to extend his stay at the Parc des Princes beyond the expiration of his current deal in June.

"I'm at the end of my contract, and we haven't been able to reach an agreement. So, it's going to be difficult to stay," he told Canal+. "For my good, I have to get back onto the pitch, enjoy myself and get my confidence back.

"I still have objectives to achieve. For that, I think I'm going to have to leave. My objective will be Euro 2016. It's a little complicated. I have never found myself in a situation like this. My season started badly, I had an operation. After that, there were games in which I should have played but didn't. That's due to things other than football, but that's part of it. You have to deal with it, and I am digging in. There are two months left. We'll see after that."

While Lyon and Monaco, for whom Menez played between 2006 and 2008, are among those reportedly monitoring the player's situation in France, another of his former clubs, Roma, and Juventus are also following closely.

In an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport last week, Menez said he felt he was "misunderstood" at PSG, with many reproaching him his sullen demeanour and frequent fits of pique. The ex-Sochaux prodigy was even given a one-game international ban by the French FA after insulting the referee and exchanging angry words with France captain Hugo Lloris during their nation's Euro 2012 quarterfinal defeat to Spain.

However, Menez insists he is now a reformed character.

He said: "I have changed a lot. When I was young, I was perhaps a little more nonchalant. I made some mistakes, I admit. It's perhaps a little bit my fault too. I think I've learned a lot from my mistakes, I'm calmer. From now on, I'm going to try to open myself up more to the press and to people."
