Christian Eriksen: Spurs want revenge

Super Sunday hits its zenith with the Reds against the Lilywhites at Anfield, and Anthony Richardson & Ian Fiveankles are there to bring you all the big big big talking points. And more from Brendan Rodgers's relaxation CD.

Christian Eriksen is seeking “nice, cold revenge” against Liverpool on Sunday after seeing Tottenham Hotspur thrashed 5-0 by Brendan Rodgers’ side earlier this season.

Andre Villas-Boas was sacked as Tottenham head coach following December's encounter, having already lost 6-0 at Manchester City, with Tim Sherwood named as his replacement.

Eriksen did not feature in the Liverpool game at White Hart Lane, but that has done nothing to lessen the Denmark international’s desire to make amends at Anfield.

“Everybody wants a nice, cold revenge,” he told the British national press. “Everybody wants to prove that we're not that bad, like we have been in a few games.

“We have had some big losses against the bigger clubs and we know, if we want to get closer to the top, we have to win these games. We're trying to save that sense and that feeling from the games we lost, to turn into a winning feeling.”

Victory at Liverpool would take Spurs to within five points of fourth-placed Arsenal, but Eriksen insists playing in the Europa League next season would be no disgrace.

“We haven't got the prize we wanted [in recent weeks], but the feeling I have here at the club doesn't depend on Champions League or Europa League,” he said. "Everybody wants to be in the Champions League, but if you can't get that at the end of the season we'll be all right with the Europa League.

“We'll feel sorry where we threw it away, but we'll see where we are.”

Eriksen will come up against former Ajax teammate Luis Suarez on Sunday, and he said: “He was like you see now -- a really good player.

“He plays his own style. I think he has improved. At Ajax he was that good but you come to a new league and he's done even better. He always does everything to win. He's always been like that.”

Sherwood has also highlighted the threat posed by Suarez and his strike partner Daniel Sturridge, telling Spurs’ official website: "We have to respect the fact that they have the best strike partnership in the Premier League for many a year. Suarez and Sturridge are scoring for fun, so we have to try and stop that and find a way to get at them.”

Despite the Spurs boss’ concerns over the Liverpool attack, Rodgers is expecting a positive approach from the visitors.

“I don't think the approach will be much different,” the Reds boss told Liverpool’s official website. "Tottenham are a great football club with an identity that has always been to play attractive, attacking football.

“That's how they'll look to play. They'll look to come and win the game, be expansive and look to win. Tim has taken over there and he's a passionate guy and he is obviously looking to get those methods and ideas into the players.”
