Walter Mazzarri bemoans refereeing

Inter coach Walter Mazzarri said his side just never get penalties after they were denied another against Udinese in last night's opaque 0-0 draw at San Siro.

"We tried everything to win, but this is a bewitched year," said Mazzarri after the match, almost in disbelief that Inter are creating so much but scoring so little.

Inter players claimed a penalty after Thomas Heurtaux intercepted a Rodrigo Palacio cross with his arm in the closing stages of the match, and Mazzarri complained: "There are episodes where a penalty might or might not be given -- how is it possible that, when in doubt, it never happens that the referee blows the whistle in our favour? It's been 32 matches now since we were last given one. It's an odd year, and this is the way the wind's blowing. I doubt it’s going to change in the eight remaining matches."

Inter have not been awarded a penalty since May 8, 2013, when Ricardo Alvarez slipped on the wet pitch and missed, shooting high, against Lazio.

Whilst praising Udinese’s organization on the pitch, Mazzarri blamed bad luck for the goalless draw.

"I didn’t like (our) first half. Udinese are a strong team and (Francesco) Guidolin is a good coach, able to keep his team in good balance. But in the second half, from 15’ onwards, we deserved to score at least two or three; but the ball just didn’t want to go in, as has happened too often this season. In situations such as this there’s something beyond our control -- I cannot criticize the players. Once again, tonight we created so much.”

The aims for the rest of the season are clear: "We need to try and pick up as many points as possible to finish as high as we can. Then, once the season is over, we will re-evaluate it and see how we can start afresh for my second season at Inter."
