'Bayern must get into Rooney's head'

Former England captain Tony Adams has told Bayern Munich to provoke Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney in their upcoming Champions League quarterfinal.

Rooney, 28, has struck 29 goals in 79 Champions League games, and in the absence of Robin van Persie he will be United’s main threat against Bayern.

Former Arsenal skipper Adams, though, feels the European champions can stop the England international by getting into his head.

“Without a doubt, Wayne Rooney is one of the best attackers in the world,” Adams said in Sport Bild.

“How do you play against him? I would have kicked him off the pitch. I think looking at his performances in recent years, then you have to say he can look frustrated fairly quickly.

“When somebody provokes him, he tends to overreact like no other player.

“He can be easily goaded. But if you let him play, then he will play. And then Bayern Munich will have a problem.”
