Thorgan Hazard may seek Blues chance

Thorgan Hazard has said he does not intend to return to Belgium next season and may seek to prove himself at Chelsea.

Thorgan Hazard has no plans to return to Belgium next season.

Hazard moved to Stamford Bridge shortly after older brother Eden in 2012 but has spent the entirety of his Blues career to date on loan with Zulte-Waregem in his homeland.

The 20-year-old, who won the award for the best player in Belgium in January, had sought to terminate that loan deal in order to move to reigning champions Anderlecht until the end of the season, but ultimately he resolved to see out his current agreement.

• Yokhin: Could Thorgan surpass Eden?

His form has suffered since that time but, ahead of the Belgian Cup final against Lokeren on Saturday, he is hoping to leave Zulte-Waregem with a parting gift.

“The cup final is a great chance to show that I'm back,” he told a news conference, referring to his recent disappointing performances. “It's also a chance for the club to win a trophy. I'd like to leave the club with a trophy. Well, everyone knows I won't be staying at this club.”

His future beyond this season remains unclear, however.

“I’ll begin at Chelsea,” he said. “We’ll see -- it’s all too far off for now. We can’t forget Playoffs 1 [the final part of the Pro League season]. We want to perform in that. After that, though, I will leave Belgium.”

Asked whether a loan switch to Anderlecht was still a possibility, he replied: “You never know, but at this point it’s no longer an option for me.”
