Mancini backs Manchester City for title

Galatasary head coach Roberto Mancini believes his former side Manchester City are the favourites to win the Premier League this season.

Roberto Mancini has tipped his former club Manchester City to win the Premier League title and has cast doubt on Liverpool’s chances of becoming champions for the first time in 24 years.

• Mooney: Keep calm and carry on

The Italian, who is now in charge of Galatasaray, led City to their first title in 44 years in 2012 before being sacked 12 months later.

And while City are only fourth, six points behind leaders Chelsea, Mancini believes the ability of Manuel Pellegrini’s players means it will end up becoming a two-horse race between them and Jose Mourinho’s side.

Speaking after Chelsea beat Galatasaray 2-0 to eliminate them from the Champions League, Mancini said: "I think that Manchester City's the best team. They have the best players.

"I don't know if Liverpool, also doing very well in this moment, can win. I think it will be a fight till the end between City and Chelsea."

Liverpool are currently second in the table after taking 26 points from their last 10 games, while Arsenal are third.

Mancini led City to third, first and second in his three full seasons at the Etihad Stadium and also reached two FA Cup finals, winning the competition in 2011.

And he said: “I have good memories of England.  I did a very good job with Manchester City.”
