Edinson Cavani enjoying wide PSG role

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Blaise Matuidi has guarenteed that his team have no intention of letting their Ligue 1lead slip after beating Saint-Etienne 2-0 on Sunday.

Edinson Cavani has told beIN SPORTS he has no problem with being played in an unfamiliar role at Paris Saint-Germain, but says he still remains obsessed by scoring goals.

Johnson: PSG in need of glamour tie

With it almost unthinkable to move Zlatan Ibrahimovic out of the central striking position in Laurent Blanc's 4-3-3 formation, given his form this season, Cavani, 27, has found himself being played on the right-hand side of the French champions' attacking trident.

It is in stark contrast to when the Uruguay international was the focal point of the Napoli attack where, last term, he struck 29 goals to finish as Serie A’s top scorer.

Despite his exile out wide, however, Cavani has managed an admirable 14 Ligue 1 goals in 23 top-flight outings for the club he joined last summer in a reported 64 million euro deal, while he has equally impressed by showing the lung-bursting industry also required in his new position.

“Up to now, the results have proved that everything is going well,” Cavani said.

“I don't play in the same position as I did at Napoli, but the most important thing for me is to be on the pitch.

“My ambition remains the same. I always have the hunger to score, to be on the pitch and finish the team's moves.

“I want to help my teammates, even if I'm a striker, because it's important to win back possession. But scoring is something incomparable.”
