Seedorf: Meeting with fans was peaceful

ESPN FC's Gab Marcotti discusses the protest AC Milan supporters have begun to stage.

AC Milan coach Clarence Seedorf said his meeting with angry fans had been "useful and peaceful" after the Rossoneri's season took another turn for the worse.

• Paul: Ten-man Milan suffer deflating loss to Parma

A 4-2 defeat at home to Parma has left the Milanese club languishing in 10th place in Serie A, now 12 points adrift of the top five and a place in Europe next season.

Fans were critical of Mario Balotelli and general manager Adriano Galliani before, during and after the game, when they asked for -- and obtained -- a meeting with Seedorf.

"They are all concerned because they love Milan," Seedorf said. "I will defend the Rossoneri colours together with the lads. We need to work a great deal and find a solution.

"The situation is increasingly delicate. It was a peaceful meeting between people who wear this shirt with pride and have this club close to their heart. We all love this club and this is a moment in which things are not going well."

The finger has also been pointed at Seedorf, accused of lacking experience in his first coaching role after hanging up his playing boots only three months ago.

"There's no point looking for people to blame right now," continued Seedorf. "We need to get away from these problems we're having. I accept the criticism and always work hard and seriously. My humbleness and the work I do each day speak for me. I've never said anything arrogant."

Following last week's elimination from the Champions League, Milan now have 10 games to salvage their season, although qualifying for the Europa League is starting to look increasingly unlikely. Milan last failed to make it into Europe in 1998.

"Our aim since I got here has been to take each game as it comes," Seedorf told Milan Channel. "Europe is still an objective, but we've got to be realistic and think on a game by game basis. Now we've got to think of Lazio."
