Gervinho: Ivory Coast can beat the best

Gervinho has told RMC Sport that the Ivory Coast can "match a lot of big teams" at this summer's World Cup in Brazil.

Gervinho says the experience in the Ivory Coast coast could be decisive in Brazil this summer.

'Yaya Toure is underrated'

The Roma attacker, 26, will join Galatasaray forward Didier Drogba at the sharp end of the African nation's lineup.

The Elephants' squad will also include Manchester City's Yaya Toure and players with extensive experience of European football such as Didier Zokora and Yaya's brother, Kolo Toure.

Pitted against Colombia, Greece and Japan in Group C, Sabri Lamouchi's men will be confident of progressing to the last 16, and Gervinho told RMC they can go further.

"We can match a lot of big teams," he said. "We have players playing at big clubs, who are a match for great players. We can do it.

"Sabri Lamouchi has come along with a great attitude, he knows how to handle the squad. We're all motivated.

"We have a chance of getting through the first round, and we'll do all we can to do that."

The former Arsenal forward struggled during his two seasons in England between 2011 and 2013, and has scored eight goals in 21 games with the Giallorossi since his move last summer.

Gervinho has netted 13 goals in 52 appearances for the national side since his 2007 debut.
