Begovic takes pride in Real Madrid link

Stoke goalkeeper Asmir Begovic says he is flattered by reported interest from La Liga giants Real Madrid.

Stoke goalkeeper Asmir Begovic was selected for his goalscoring potency.
Asmir Begovic has kept seven Premier League clean sheets this season.

• Train: Keeping Real warm?

Despite already having two in-form custodians in Diego Lopez and Iker Casillas, Madrid continue to be linked with other keepers, with Atletico Madrid’s on-loan Chelsea keeper Thibaut Courtois this week having to deny reports he had already agreed to move to the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu in the future.

The Bosnia international told Spanish news agency EFE that he did not know of any official interest from Madrid, but suggested he would welcome an approach if one were made.

“You feel proud to read these things, but they are just rumours, there is nothing official, and I have not had contacts with the people from the Madrid club,” Begovic said.

“It is extraordinary, it is brilliant when they link you to a club like this, one of the biggest in the world. I am very happy at Stoke City, I have an excellent status here and I am only thinking about my club. If in the future there is something more than speculation, then I could think more seriously about it.”

Reports in the English media have claimed that Madrid could pay as much as £15 million for Begovic, 26, who apparently impressed Carlo Ancelotti when the current Blancos boss was in charge at Stamford Bridge.

While Ancelotti is currently rotating Lopez and Casillas between the posts, the situation clearly not ideal for either man. The former has been linked with a summer move to AC Milan in recent weeks, while English clubs including Manchester City are reported to have made offers to tempt the current Spain captain away from the Bernabeu.
