Remy keen on transfer to one of 'big five'

Loic Remy believes he can still play at one of Europe's top five clubs, but admitted to France Football past errors have cost him a more glorious career.

Loic Remy has impressed for Newcastle this season.
Loic Remy has scored 13 goals in 23 Premier League appearances for Newcastle.

Remy, 27, has endured well-publicised problems since moving to England last year, and was even arrested after being accused of rape in May. However, police informed the France international striker in February he will face no charges

Remy believes he can now fully exploit the potential that once -- while at his first club, Lyon -- had him billed as the new Thierry Henry.

"Wasted is a bit strong as a word. There are things that have held my career back. Of course it's a shame. Now, without being pretentious, I could perhaps play at a bigger club, a club in the top five in Europe," said the pacy forward, who has 13 goals in 23 Premier League appearances for the Magpies this season.

"Yes, I will be part of Europe's top five or I will be part of a very big club. I'm sure of what I can do. I can be a lot better. I still have quite an enormous amount of room for improvement."

Remy is only on loan at St James's Park from Queen's Park Rangers, the club he opted to sign for rather than move immediately to Newcastle when Marseille surprised him by deciding to sell in January 2013.

When he left Loftus Road after QPR's relegation last season to finally move to the North-East, his arrival was met with scepticism from Newcastle fans, for whom Remy's rejection of them was still a raw wound.

"I was already quite well down the road to joining Newcastle before opting for QPR. So, last summer, when I joined Newcastle, I felt I owed them something. I had to earn their forgiveness," stated the ex-Nice man, who is the English top flight's fourth-highest scorer.

"I could have scored more. I never settle for what I have. I could have 15 or 16. I missed three games through suspension, two or three others at the start of the season with injury. I'm eternally ambitious. My objective is to score 17-18 goals this season in the Premier League. I'm in full form right now."

Remy is hoping his impressive displays in black and white will convince France boss Didier Deschamps to include him in the 23-strong party for next summer's World Cup, particularly after he missed out on Euro 2012 with a thigh injury.

"I have no choice, I have to go," said the striker, who picked up his 22nd cap when he came off the bench during Les Bleus2-0 defeat of the Netherlands last week. "I don't have any guarantee. Places are had to come by. Deschamps is fair. He does things transparently. I have to continue playing well, scoring. There is a place there to take. I will do everything to be there."
