Klopp: Sammer does nothing for Bayern

Borussia Dortmund coach Juergen Klopp has hit back at Matthias Sammer in the ongoing saga over Bayern Munich's Bundesliga dominance, questioning what impact the sporting director actually has at the Champions League holders.

Jurgen Klopp argues with Matthias Sammer Dortmund v Bayern Munich
Juergen Klopp and Matthias Sammer clashed in their side's 1-1 Bundesliga draw in May 2013.

• Buzcko: BVB back to second
• Schaaf: Bayern go 48 unbeaten

Sammer urged the other Bundesliga clubs not to criticise Bayern’s domestic stranglehold on Thursday, stating that Die Roten were not only superior in quality but also in mentality.

Sammer went on to suggest that some responsibility must also lie with the other clubs in lacking the drive and intensity to match Pep Guardiola’s side, who top the division by 20 points.

"And maybe the message to the other clubs is: Do they train every single day with utmost care as if there was no tomorrow? The daily training, the daily addresses are the product of a development. And some clubs in Germany don’t have that,” Sammer said.

On Friday, a reporter read out that statement to Klopp during a news conference, and asked Klopp for his opinion. The Dortmund coach sat back and considered his words, at first hesitating to answer, but then laid in to Sammer.

"Let me put it that way: If I was Matthias Sammer, I’d thank god every day that somebody had the idea to bring me in," Sportschau reports Klopp as saying in reference to Sammer’s appointment as Bayern in the summer of 2013.

"I think that Bayern would not have less points without Matthias Sammer."

When finishing his statement, Klopp added: "At first, I did not want to comment on this. But you can’t put up with everything."

Sammer -- who clashed with Klopp last May during a 1-1 league draw between the sides -- has yet to reply to the BVB boss' statement that immediately made the headlines in German news outlets including Sport1, Bild Sport and Focus.
