De Bruyne: Mourinho blocked BVB move

Kevin De Bruyne has told Sport Bild he believes Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho prevented him joining Borussia Dortmund in the summer due to his frustration at failing to sign Robert Lewandowski.

Kevin De Bruyne eventually signed for Wolfsburg in January after a frustrating first half of the season at Chelsea.

Watzke: BVB right to keep Lewa
Lythell: Schuerrle option

De Bruyne returned to Stamford Bridge in the summer after a successful year’s loan with Werder Bremen and, despite links with a host of a Bundesliga sides, ended up spending the first half of the season with the Blues.

However, he failed to impress Mourinho and, with his World Cup hopes under threat, the Belgium international made the move to Wolfsburg in the January window.

It has now been confirmed -- as Dortmund had claimed at the time -- that he had been ready to move to the Westfalenstadion in the summer, and he had even agreed personal terms with the Champions League finalists, but the Chelsea boss blocked the transfer.

“Mourinho said no,” De Bruyne told Sport Bild.

Asked about the rumours Mourinho was angry with Dortmund CEO Aki Watzke because the Blues had been unable to secure a deal for Lewandowski, De Bruyne added: “That's what my agent also told me.

“But that’s professional football. Where there is a lot of money involved, there will also be a lot of politics.”

Lewandowski, whose contract had entered its final year, had always been expected to join Bayern Munich and eventually confirmed at the start of this year that he would be signing for the European champions on a free transfer at the end of the current season.

Watzke told Sport Bild that Dortmund’s hands had been tied with regard to Lewandowski, who had also attracted interest from Real Madrid.

“We had no influence on Robert’s decision,” he said.
