Ancelotti: Atletico will beat AC Milan

Atletico Madrid head coach Diego Simeone was proud of his players despite being held to a 2-2 draw in their La Liga derby against city rivals Real Madrid.

Carlo Ancelotti does not hold out much hope for his former club AC Milan in the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie with Atletico Madrid next week.

• Train: Real survive Atleti test
• Paul: Rossoneri punished

Trailing 1-0 from the first leg at the San Siro, the Rossoneri head to the Estadio Vicente Calderon on March 11 looking to turn the tie around and take their place in the quarterfinals.

But after seeing Cristiano Ronaldo earn his Real Madrid side a late 2-2 draw against the impressive Colchoneros at the weekend, Ancelotti is pessimistic about Milan's chances.

"I wish Clarence Seedorf all the best of luck, but Atletico are favourites," the Italian coach said at an awards ceremony in Coverciano on Monday.

"Atletico are favourites because of the football they play, for the atmosphere there will be at the Calderon, and for the advantage they have from the San Siro. [Diego] Simeone will go through."

Victory for Atletico would create the prospect of a Madrid derby in the final eight as Los Blancos practically assured their passage with a 6-1 win over Schalke in Gelsenkirchen last week -- though not even that result makes the Primera Division leaders favourites for the European title, in Ancelotti's opinion.

"Everybody at Real wants La Decima, but from the quarterfinals onwards, all the opponents are dangerous," Ancelotti continued. "In particular Bayern [Munich], who are the favourites."

Ancelotti complained about the physical approach of Simeone's side after the derbi on Sunday, saying: "We tried to play but it wasn't easy because Atletico played a very rough game.

"They tried to impose a violent game. We don't play like that. We tried to play football and in the end we managed to do that."
