Kolarov: Now Man City see the real me

Sunderland boss Gus Poyet says his side need no extra motivation ahead of Sunday's Capital One Cup final with Manchester City at Wembley.

Aleksandar Kolarov believes he is showing his true self since Manuel Pellegrini replaced Roberto Mancini as Manchester City manager.

Manchester City have scored 19 goals in five games on the road to the Capital One Cup final against Sunderland.

• Curtis: Kompany's chance
• Mooney: Price of success

The Serbia international has already made 33 appearances under Pellegrini this season, playing more games than he did in the entirety of the 2012-13 campaign under Mancini.

But although he has been in fine form for the Chilean -- and has even stood in as captain at times -- the left-back insists he has not improved, saying simply that he has been given more opportunities to impress at the Etihad.

"I was always the same player -- just this season I play more often," he said. "Now I show my real face. I just did not play a lot with Mancini."

Kolarov has scored in four different competitions this season as City have amassed 118 goals in their hunt for silverware, and the former Lazio player believes Pellegrini’s attacking style of play is the reason why they have been so prolific.

"From the first day he asked us to play very offensive football,” he continued. “We show that on the pitch."

City face Sunderland in the Capital One Cup final on Sunday in what will be their first visit to Wembley since Mancini’s final game in charge, after the Italian was sacked 48 hours following a shock 1-0 FA Cup final defeat to underdogs Wigan.

"I think how we arrived in the FA Cup final you can tell we were not 100 percent," Kolarov said. "Wigan played very well even though they were [eventually] relegated and I think they deserved to win."

City take on Wigan again in the quarterfinals of the FA Cup and remain in the Premier League title race, but are on the brink of a Champions League exit as they face an uphill battle in overturning a 2-0 first-leg defeat in the last 16 to Barcelona.

Despite the deficit, Kolarov still believes City could be on course for an unprecedented Quadruple season, adding: "We have to start with [the] first [trophy and] we hope we can get three or four this season.

"On Sunday, it [the Capital One Cup] is the most important competition in England. Maybe it is not as important as the FA Cup, the Champions League or the Premier League, but every trophy is a trophy.

"If you asked any coach in the Premier League if they would want to win the Capital One Cup, they would say 100 percent."
