Dortmund punish fan for Nazi shout

Borussia Dortmund have imposed a six-year stadium ban on a man, who shouted a Nazi slogan during a minute of silence in tribute to Hamburg legend Hermann Rieger.

Hamburg's tribute to Hermann Rieger was interrupted.

Ahead of Hamburg’s shock 3-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund on Saturday, the hosts honoured former physio Rieger, who died last week.

While both teams gathered in the middle of the pitch, and the stadium remembered Rieger, a “Sieg Heil” shout disturbed the minute of silence towards the away end of the stadium.

The shout was answered with whistles and some “Nazis raus!” (Nazis out!) chants. According to media reports, a drunken 33-year old was ejected from the stadium and a charge was brought against the man, reportedly a Dortmund supporter.

“Three days after the away game at Hamburger SV, Borussia Dortmund have imposed a local stadium ban until 2020 on the man, who disturbed the minute of silence for HSV club legend Hermann Rieger with a right-wing heckle,” a Dortmund press release read on Tuesday.

“Immediately after the final whistle, Borussia Dortmund encouraged HSV to impose the maximum three-year nationwide stadium ban,” the press release said.

Borussia Dortmund have had trouble with right-wing fans in the past. In November 2013, Dortmund handed a four-year stadium ban to a supporter for a Nazi salute during a Bundesliga game against Stuttgart.
