Ancelotti: 10th UCL title an ‘obsession’

Carlo Ancelotti says that Real Madrid have put in the hard work to get their season back on track and he now wants to ‘decorate’ their campaign with the club’s long sought-after 10th European Cup trophy.

After a rocky start, Madrid are now 26 games without defeat in all competitions. In recent weeks they have caught and surpassed Barcelona and Atletico Madrid to take a three-point lead in La Liga, while also qualifying for April’s Copa del Rey final against their Catalan rivals.

Speaking ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League last 16 first leg at Schalke, Ancelotti told Canal Plus that reaching and winning the Champions League final in Lisbon would be the crowning achievement of what is turning into a good season for Madrid.

Carlo Ancelotti hopes Cristiano Ronaldo can get even better.

“We want to play the final of the Champions League,” Ancelotti said. “Obsession? ‘La Decima’ is a word you can hear again and again, it is a big motivation for everyone.

"We have worked for seven months to build a good solid base. We have built the house, now we have to decorate it. You cannot live in a house without anything inside, and we hope to decorate it well.”

Even with their illustrious history Madrid have never won a Treble of Liga, Copa and European Cup in the one season - something which has become an increasingly common subject of conversation among Blancos fans and pundits as the team’s form has improved.

Casillas told the Madrid club site that he and his teammates were on the right path to get there, but there was a long way to go yet.

“I would love us to achieve the first Treble in history,” Casillas said. “Right now, we are exactly where we want to be, and that is in the fight for all three competitions.

"I would love the final headline of the season to be that we won the Treble. We know it is difficult because a lot of teams want to win it all. I hope to be able to read that headline on May 25, that Real Madrid won everything possible.”
