Thomas Mueller out of Schalke clash

ESPN FC's Gab Marcotti gives his thoughts on Bayern's huge lead in Bundesliga and if it will affect their Champions League form.

Thomas Mueller will miss Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga game against Schalke on Saturday after tearing a muscle in his right thigh.

Schaaf: Down-tempo Bayern upend Hannover

Mueller, 24, struck a brace in Bayern’s 4-0 victory at Hannover  on Sunday, and has now scored 10 goals in 21 league appearances this season.

However, the European champions revealed on Monday that the Germany international will not be able to add to that tally at the Allianz Arena this weekend.

“Mueller will need to take a five-day forced break from training,” Bayern said in a statement on their official website. “He will then begin with light running. Thus the 24-year-old is set to miss the home game against Schalke 04 on Saturday.”

Mueller’s teammates Franck Ribery and Xherdan Shaqiri, however, are making good progress in training.

The two midfielders have missed recent games through injury, and have both been treated at Bayern’s training ground at Saebener Strasse.

Shaqiri is expected to return to team training this week, although a date for Ribery’s comeback has yet to be given.
