Zidane's son opts to represent France

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti discussed the goalkeeping situation within his team this season.

Real Madrid midfielder Enzo Fernandez -- the son of legendary midfielder Zinedine Zidane -- has chosen to play for France at underage level, according to former French star Willy Sagnol.

Zinedine Zidane has much to teach Gareth Bale, on and off the pitch.
Zinedine Zidane is assistant coach at Real Madrid, where 18-year-old son Enzo Fernandez also plays.

• Lowe: Zizou's next step

The 18-year-old Los Blancos starlet had hesitated between declaring his international future to France or Spain, but has now accepted the call from the former country according to one of his father's former international teammates.

Sagnol -- who oversees underage sides at the French Football Federation -- says that Enzo has chosen to follow in his father's footsteps with Les Bleus, but could still change his mind before a competitive international appearance.

"The player has decided to wear the blue jersey," the ex-Bayern Munich full-back told Le Parisien.

"He could still change in the future but his wish at the moment is to play for France."

Fernandez will take part in a training camp for the French under-19 squad at Clairefontaine between Monday and Wednesday next week.

The attacking midfielder, who uses his mother's family name, has been on Real's books since 2004.

His father Zinedine -- who won the 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000 with France -- is currently assistant manager of Los Blancos alongside head coach Carlo Ancelotti.

Madrid currently lead the Primera Division by three points after title rivals Barcelona and Atletico Madrid both lost this weekend, with Ancelotti's men picking up a routine 3-0 win over Elche on Saturday.
