FA 'investigates Rooney coin throwers'

The Football Association is looking into identifying the culprits who threw coins at Wayne Rooney during Manchester United's 2-0 win at Crystal Palace, according to reports, and will push for banning orders to be issued for anyone found guilty.

Okwonga: Rooney strikes to keep dark forces at bay

Fresh from signing his new 300,000 pounds-a-week contract with United, Rooney, 28, endured abuse from the home support at Selhurst Park on Saturday as he took a first-half corner, before handing a coin which was thrown at him to officials.

The FA is currently compiling reports on the incident, including referee Michael Oliver’s, as well as accounts from safety and security staff, along with CCTV footage.

Rooney went on to score a spectacular volley to help secure the three points for United, and his manager David Moyes said he will not have been fazed by the abuse.

"I don't think it bothered Wayne at all," Moyes said. "I don't think that would be anything that would affect him.

"I'm sure all those people who were throwing coins at him will be cheering him on in three months' time at the World Cup."
