Toni Kroos 'happy' at Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich midfielder Toni Kroos has insisted he is "happy" at the club, although he has yet to reach an agreement with the European champions over a new contract.

Brewin: Arsenal pay the penalty

Kroos, 24, impressed during the Champions League last-16 first-leg win against Arsenal on Wednesday, and German media have since moved to lavish praise on the player.

On Thursday, Berliner Zeitung ran a feature on “the most complete German midfielder.” The paper also called Kroos “the only German footballer who fully fulfils the complex profile as a box-to-box player,” adding that he plays with “his brain, his lungs and his feet.”

Die Welt raised questions as to whether Kroos has become better than Bastian Schweinsteiger, naming him as someone who could be the “key player” at the World Cup for Germany coach Joachim Loew.

Loew witnessed Kroos’ fine performance at the Emirates Stadium, and he will hope the Bayern man will not let the uncertainty surrounding his future affect him in Brazil.

The Germany international is under contract at the Allianz Arena until 2015 and has so far not managed to extend his deal. He is reportedly on 86,000 euros a week, but hopes to double his wages if he is to put pen to paper.

After the Arsenal clash, Kroos revealed that he has recently broached the subject with Bayern coach Pep Guardiola, whom he clashed with when substituted during the 2-1 victory at Stuttgart in January.

“We have sorted out one or two things,” Kroos, who in the past has said that all contract talks are on ice until the summer, told reporters. “Like I have said many times, I am happy at Bayern. But as matters stand today, we have yet to come to an understanding. But that can change.”

Guardiola has also recently expressed his hope that Kroos will sign a new contract with the club.

The midfielder has been linked with a move to Manchester United, while Die Welt reported on Thursday that Manchester City and Chelsea are also interested in the player, who is reportedly valued at 40 million euros. According to the paper, the Blues have already made Kroos “an immoral offer.”
