Dortmund interested in Immobile - agent

The agent of Torino forward Ciro Immobile claims Borussia Dortmund have targeted his client as a potential replacement for Robert Lewandowski from next season.

Ciro Immobile has been in sharp form in front of goal this season.

The Bundesliga side are on the lookout for a new striker to replace the Bayern Munich-bound Pole, and Immobile, who has scored eight goals in his last eight games, is the latest to be linked with a move to Dortmund.

According to his agent, Marco Sommella, Immobile is not only set to be the subject of interest from Europe's top clubs this summer, but he could also be a late entry into the Italy squad for the World Cup, such is his current form.

"Clearly news of his 13 goals from open play this season have spread beyond the boundaries of Italy, having also scored regularly and done well for Italy's under-21s," said Sommella. "Borussia are Champions League runners-up and they're now looking for somebody who can replace a top player in Lewandowski.

"[Their interest] just goes to show how big my player is becoming. It's often said that the Italian league is one of the tightest and that it's always hard to score goals. Well it's one thing when you play for Napoli, Juve or Roma, and another, with all due respect, when you're playing for Torino."

Immobile's goalscoring exploits have also caught the eye of Cesare Prandelli and Sommella believes if the 24-year-old can carry on performing with the same level of consistency until the end of the campaign, it is going to be hard for the Italy coach not to pick him.

"It's every boy's dream of wearing the shirt of their national team," he said on gianlucadimarzio.com. "We're approaching a World Cup and a call-up would round things off nicely, it would be a dream.

"He's doing what he can, performing consistently well. The season's still long, though, and things can change quickly in football, but there's no getting away from what Immobile's doing and even Prandelli can see that."
