Zidane talks up goalkeeping son's talent

Zinedine Zidane has told Algerian media his son and budding goalkeeper Luca "has the qualities to do something" in the game after honing his skills facing the shots of his famous father.

• Rigg: Clasico cup final is Ancelotti's first chance

A former Real Madrid star, Zidane, 41, is now assistant coach under Carlo Ancelotti, and his eldest son, Enzo, signed a professional contract with the Spanish club last summer and currently plays with the under-19 side.

The Zidane family history at the Santiago Bernabeu could now have a further chapter as the former France international has another of his four sons, Luca, 15, coming through the Madrid ranks, and Zidane Sr. told Le Buteur the youngster may have a bright future.

"He works hard and has the qualities to do something. It's always the same: when you have qualities from the off, you can always succeed. That said, he has to wait. He's young, not quite 16. What I like about him is that he has the knack, the desire, he trains a lot to improve, he listens. He has everything you need to succeed," the 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000 winner explained, before revealing how a son of one of the game's most creative talents became a shot-stopper.

"There was Enzo and Luca and, when I finished training, the three of us played every day. To play, there is always one who shoots and one who stops. So, we needed a goalkeeper. The eldest always chooses the most glamorous role, so it was Enzo who shot and Luca the goalkeeper. Moreover, it suited him, up to the point when he said: 'Dad, I want to play goalkeeper'. It wasn't planned he do that, but through diving around every day, he told me he wanted to play goalkeeper because he liked it."
