Bayern march on, Dortmund rout

Bayern Munich extended their unbeaten streak to 45 games with a 2-0 victory in the Bavarian derby at Nurnberg.

Philipp Lahm scores Bayern's second in their 2-0 win at Nurnberg.
Philipp Lahm scores Bayern's second in their 2-0 win at Nurnberg.

After a bright start from the hosts, David Alaba's cross was volleyed in by Mario Mandzukic to put Bayern ahead in the 18th minute.

After two injury-enforced alterations Nurnberg lost their shape and Bayern took control of the game, going close numerous times to making it two before Philipp Lahm sealed victory number 18 of the season on the hour mark. It was the skipper's first Bundesliga goal since December 2010.

Borussia Dortmund kept up the pursuit of second-placed Bayer Leverkusen thanks to an emphatic 5-1 win at Werder Bremen which leaves the northern Germany side in serious relegation danger.

Robert Lewandowski put Jurgen Klopp's men in front in the 26th minute before Henrikh Mkhitaryan made it two before the break. Defender Manuel Friedrich added a third just after the break before Mkhitaryan netted his second.

Lewandowski then sealed Dortmund's second straight win before Levent Aycicek grabbed a consolation.

Wolfsburg got back to winning ways in style on Saturday with a 3-0 win over Mainz, who they left three points in their wake in the Bundesliga standings.

All the goals arrived in the second half when the hosts took control of the game after Mainz kept them at bay successfully for 45 minutes.

Riccardo Rodriguez scored the first from the penalty spot before Bas Dost added a second. Luiz Gustavo added a third to reinforce the Wolves' place inside the top six.

Hamburg's plight worsened as they were thrashed 3-0 at home by Hertha Berlin.

After missing a penalty, Adrian Ramos scored twice while Sami Allagui was also on target as the visitors to the HSV-Arena completed the job within the first 45 minutes.

Hamburg, who have the worst defensive record in the division, have now lost six games in a row and are two points adrift of safety, second from the foot of the Bundesliga.

Despite receiving assurances that his job would be safe even in the event of a defeat, Hamburg coach Bert van Marwijk's future is nevertheless uncertain with few expecting them to capitulate so convincingly at home.

Baden-Wurttemberg's Bundesliga strugglers Freiburg and Hoffenheim took a point apiece from a tense 1-1 derby encounter at the Dreisamstadion.

Jonathan Schmid gave the hosts the lead midway through the first half, but substitute Anthony Modeste levelled five minutes from time.

Hoffenheim nearly stole victory late on, but it remained all square with the point doing little to help either side out of a precarious situation in the lower regions of the Bundesliga.

Eintracht Frankfurt lifted themselves away from the bottom three of the Bundesliga with three first-half goals enough to see off the challenge of Eintracht Braunschweig 3-0 and leave them rooted to the foot of the table.

Johannes Flum got things going for Armin Veh's men in the seventh minute before two quick-fire goals from Alexander Meier and Stefan Aigner sealed a 3-0 victory before the break.

Braunschweig tried to make a fight of it in the second half, but the damage had already been done as Frankfurt held on to their second win of 2014.
