Alexander Meier interested in MLS move

Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Alexander Meier is considering a switch to the MLS after his contract with the Bundesliga club expires in the summer.

Alexander Meier has been in inspired form this season
Alexander Meier's Frankfurt contract expires at the end of the season.

Meier, 31, has been one of the most consistent goal scorers in German football since joining Frankfurt in 2004.

From a total of 257 appearances for Die Adler, the former Germany U21 international has struck 78 times, while last season alone he scored 16, helping the club qualify for the Europa League.

Injuries have limited the midfielder’s playing time this term, but he has still managed to score nine goals in 15 appearances for the struggling Bundesliga club.

Meier will be out of contract at the end of the season, and has so far not chosen to renew his deal despite having a new offer on the table.

“I can’t even make a rough estimate,” Meier told kicker when asked when he will put pen to paper on a new deal.

“I am open to everything. I will talk to Frankfurt first. I’ve always felt fine here, but it is also my last chance.”

And when kicker asked him about a move to the MLS, Meier said: “I can imagine everything.”
