Ruffier targets World Cup place

St Etienne goalkeeper Stephane Ruffier has told RMC he hopes he can produce performances that convince Didier Deschamps he is worth a place in France's World Cup squad.

Ruffier denies hitting Lyon president Aulas in the back during the melee.
Ruffier is in fine form for his club.

With Hugo Lloris and Steve Mandanda firmly in place as Les Bleus' top two keepers, Ruffier, 27, is just behind Bastia's Mickael Landreau in the pecking order.

While Deschamps prizes the experience of Landreau, who holds the all-time record for Ligue 1 appearances, Ruffier is optimistic that his form will help push his claims for a place on the plane to Brazil.

"I am working every day for that, but there has been an established hierarchy for quite some time," Ruffier told RMC.

"When there have been injuries, I've always been called upon. It's up to me to continue putting in great performances to make the national team coach think.

"Personally, I feel great. It's up to me to work. I've always respected the coach's decisions. There are three goalkeepers, I'm the fourth. I'm going to work to make Didier Deschamps think -- and, if I manage to do that, so much the better."
