Julian Draxler 'not moving to Bayern'

Schalke chairman Clemens Toennies has ruled out the prospect of Julian Draxler moving to Bayern Munich.

Julian Draxler is highly rated in his native Germany.
Julian Draxler has been linked with a move to Bayern Munich.

Draxler, 20, was linked with a switch to Arsenal during the January transfer window, with rumours of a late Gunners bid for the midfielder confirmed by Royal Blues sporting director Horst Heldt at the weekend.

“I can confirm that there was a request. It had the dimension of a transfer that you don’t do any day of the week,” Heldt said after Schalke’s 2-1 victory over Wolfsburg on Saturday. “It was a decent deal, but insufficient for us to accept.”

While Heldt did not give away which club made the offer for Draxler -- only revealing “it came from a club up north” -- Der Westen suggested that he was referring to an English club, and most likely Arsenal.

On his Twitter account, though, football pundit Jan Aage Fjortoft has claimed that Bayern will now enter the race for the Germany international.

However, on Tuesday Toennies rubbished Fjortoft’s claims, telling Sport1: “I can rule out 100 percent that Julian Draxler wants to go to Bayern.”

Toennies did admit, however, that he has little hope Draxler, who reportedly has a 45.5 million euro release clause in his contract which can be triggered in the summer, will see out his deal until 2018.

“We will not be able to keep a super talent like Julian in the long run,”  he said.
