Spurs coin throwers wanted by police

FC's Alejandro Moreno explains why Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could be the key to Arsenal's title run.

The Metropolitan Police have released images of three Tottenham fans they are hoping to track down as they seek to make arrests following an incident that saw Arsenal winger Theo Walcott hit by coins during last month’s FA Cup third-round clash.

Theo Walcott appears certain to miss his second successive World Cup.

Crace: Muted celebration

Walcott, 24, taunted the Spurs supporters as he was carried off on a stretcher -- after sustaining what proved to be a season-ending injury -- with a handful of visiting fans at the Emirates Stadium responding by hurling coins at the England international.

St John Ambulance staff attending to Walcott, as well as stewards, were also struck by the coins, and police are now urging the public to help identify a trio of suspects.

“During the match, an Arsenal player on a stretcher, medical staff carrying him and stewards were struck by coins and other missiles thrown at them from a section of the crowd occupied by Tottenham fans,” a police spokesman said.

“The player and stewards received minor injuries as a result. Officers from the Metropolitan Police launched an investigation and have now identified three men they would like to contact.”

Police are also investigating apparent anti-Semitic Twitter posts that appeared after the FA Cup tie, which Arsenal won 2-0.
