Edinson Cavani out for three weeks

Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani faces at least three weeks on the sidelines after suffering a thigh strain against Bordeaux on Friday.

Johnson: PSG’s sensible dealings overshadowed by Cavani injury?

Cavani, 26, limped off 20 minutes from time during his side's 2-0 win at the Parc des Princes after picking up the injury.

Goals from Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Alex secured the victory for PSG -- a result which leaves the French champions five points clear at the top of the Ligue 1 table.

However, Cavani will now miss a number of the club’s key fixtures, including Wednesday's Coupe de la Ligue semifinal against Nantes and Sunday's league fixture at second-placed Monaco, while he is a major doubt for the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie at Bayer Leverkusen on Feb. 18.

"Cavani will be absent for Nantes and also against Monaco," PSG coach Laurent Blanc said on the club's official Twitter account. "The injury will be a matter of weeks, and is not uncommon for a player with his style of play. The injury is not serious, and it should not get worse. We will not take risks with Cavani."

The news is a major blow to Blanc, who has seen the summer capture from Napoli score 20 of the club’s 83 goals in competitive matches this season.
