Lewis Holtby joins Fulham on loan

Tottenham midfielder Lewis Holtby has joined Fulham on loan for the rest of the Premier League season.

Lewis Holtby has been frustrated by a lack of opportunities at Tottenham.
Lewis Holtby wants regular football.

Holtby joined Tottenham from Schalke 12 months ago for just 1.25 million pounds, but the midfielder has failed to break into the first-team after the arrival of Christian Eriksen in the summer.

Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood told a news conference on Friday: "I have said previous that we are pretty strong, in my opinion, in that area of the field and the last thing I want to do is stockpile players who I don’t see featuring on a regular basis. He’s a good lad, he warrants a start and he is one I sanction to leave the club.

"He has a future here. It will be great for him to play regular football and he will play half a season in the Premier League. I can’t see him not playing regular football in the Fulham side. He will benefit from playing regularly in the Premier League and we look forward to welcoming him back in the summer."

Holtby's agent Marcus Noack later confirmed to Press Association Sport that move did not go through without acrimony, though, and accused Tottenham of pricing Holtby out of a permanent transfer back to his native Germany.

"Fulham has put much effort into Lewis,'' he said. "It is a very well-run club with an excellent manager Rene Meulensteen. The system and philosophy how Fulham plays fits well with Lewis.

"He will have match practice in the second half of the season in his favourite position and then we'll see how things are going by summer. A return to the Bundesliga has been shattered due to circumstances we couldn't control.''
