Blanc: Cabaye will still be key for France

With the number four shirt in his hand, Yohan Cabaye already looks to be settling into life in Paris.

Laurent Blanc insists Yohan Cabaye has not harmed his World Cup chances by making a January switch to Paris Saint-Germain.

Johnson: Blanc gets his man

Cabaye, 28, signed a three-and-a-half year deal with the French champions on Wednesday, and though the club declared themselves delighted with their 20 million euro capture from Newcastle United, pundits argued the midfielder had taken a gamble with his international career with France.

With Cabaye's international colleague Blaise Matuidi having brilliantly complemented Italian international duo Thiago Motta and Marco Verratti in the middle of PSG's 4-3-3 formation this season, many see Cabaye as being the odd man out.

However, with his team in contention in the Champions League, top of Ligue 1 and in the semi-finals of the Coupe de la Ligue, Blanc, 48, told media he intends to rotate his world-class midfielders, ensuring all will get sufficient time on the pitch and allow Cabaye to keep himself in line for Didier Deschamps' World Cup plans.

"I think the national team coach will remember the players on which he was able to count on against Ukraine. Anyway, Yohan will play. He wants to play, and hasn't come to sit on the bench," Blanc said.

The PSG boss is expected to give Cabaye his club debut against Bordeaux in Friday's league game with Verratti suspended.

"In our tactical set-up, he can practically play in all three midfield positions, so he's really a very interesting alternative for us. When you have a midfield three, to have four or five players, even six players with great talent who can play in those positions, it's not too many. People don't ask that question of Bayern, Manchester City, Milan or Juve. They have five, six for three places, and it rotates."
