Wes Hoolahan set to stay at Norwich

Norwich midfielder Wes Hoolahan looks certain to be staying at Carrow Road after the Norfolk club tweeted that no more transfer business, either in or out, was expected before the end of the transfer deadline.

Wes Hoolahan had a transfer request turned down

The Mirror reports that, when asked by a television crew at the club’s Colney training ground whether he would be clearing out his locker out, Hoolahan -- strongly linked with Aston Villa -- replied: “I hope so. This is a f------ s---house club.” The midfielder could face disciplinary action over the outburst.

Earlier on Friday, reports said Villa had ended their interest in signing Hoolahan, with an unnamed rival club, believed to be West Brom, thought to have made an offer to sign him on loan.

The Villans had three bids for Hoolahan rejected, and it at one stage appeared possible that he could move to their Midlands rivals until the end of the season.

The Republic of Ireland international has featured for Norwich only infrequently under manager Chris Hughton, but saw a transfer request turned down by the Canaries.

Hughton said he had not been aware of what Hoolahan had said, explaining: “I’m not aware of that, so it’s something I will have to investigate.

"I will decide later whether or not he will be in the squad for Saturday’s game at Cardiff. This is an unsettling time for players in his situation. But it’s not the first time we have had to deal with an unsettled player and it won’t be the last.

“Whether or not a player leaves depends on if the club wants to keep him, and at the moment Wes Hoolahan is very much a Norwich player.”

Hoolahan arrived at Carrow Road from Blackpool in 2008, and has made 184 appearances for the Canaries.
