Atletico Madrid director Clemente Villaverde has claimed Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho's comments about the future of Thibaut Courtois do not count for much -- because he does not make transfer decisions at Stamford Bridge.
But Villaverde told Canal Plus that clubs doing transfer business spoke to those above the manager in the Londoners’ hierarchy.
“I do not know why he said that [ruled out a move],” Villaverde said. “You would have to ask him. I can say that we are very happy with Thibaut, and that Atletico Madrid will do everything possible for him to stay with us.
"Normally when I negotiate with Chelsea -- or any team -- it is not a negotiation with the coach. Never."
Villaverde was speaking after Courtois, 21, produced another outstanding performance in the Copa del Rey quarterfinal second leg at Athletic Bilbao on Wednesday.
A string of saves helped keep Atletico in the game in the first-half, before goals from Raul Garcia and Diego Costa brought a 2-1 win (3-1 on aggregate) to set up a two-legged semifinal clash with Real Madrid.
