Huntelaar hints at Premier League move

Schalke striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar says he is open to a move to the Premier League in the future and believes he can continue playing for another decade.

Huntelaar, 30, made an impressive comeback on Sunday after a five-and-a-half month spell on the sidelines, opening the scoring for the Schalke at Hamburg.

The Netherlands star is under contract with the Royal Blues until 2015, with his current deal including a 14 million euro release clause that can be triggered this summer.

By the time his contract runs out, Huntelaar will be 32, but he believes he has got plenty of years of playing left in him and insists he is in no hurry to negotiate a new contract anytime soon.

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has previously been linked with the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham.

“I want to play football for 10 more years. I feel young and fit -- and I don’t look old, do I?” he said to Bild.

“I have a year and a half left on my contract. I think I’ll make a decision six months before the contract runs out,” he said, not ruling out a move to the Premier League in the future.

“Certainly, I think about England every once in a while. But now only Schalke and the Rueckrunde [second half of the Bundesliga season] count for me.”

Meanwhile, Schalke sporting director Horst Heldt told Sport Bild that he wants to get to the table with Huntelaar as soon as possible.

“We have grand plans with him,” Heldt said. “And we are well aware that his contract runs out in 2015. We will enter talks with him and his agent soon.

“Klaas-Jan is unbelievably important for the team. We want to work with him on a long-term basis, but also have to look at his fitness during the Rueckrunde.”
