The FC team reacts to Juan Mata's debut and the return of Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney

Juan Mata said he settled in at Manchester United immediately and is confident he can improve on his debut performance in the 2-0 win over Cardiff.

The Spaniard completed a 37.1 million-pound move from Chelsea on Saturday and made his United bow on Tuesday night.

He praised his new teammates for making him feel at home at Old Trafford and said he believes his major role is to create goals, not score them.

Juan Mata made his Man Utd debut against Cardiff.
Juan Mata enjoyed a winning Manchester United debut against Cardiff.

Mata stated: “I have felt comfortable at this club from the first minute. The players have made me feel like this. To be honest last week I didn't train that much because of the transfer. I can improve. But I felt OK. I felt good playing alongside these players.

“I tried to assist my teammates. To be honest, with players like Rooney and Robin, they are two of the best strikers in the world. We always tried to score and I just tried to play my own game.

“I am very happy. It is an unbelievable night for me. It was my first game, my debut, at home. The welcome from the fans was fantastic. The most important thing was that we got the three points. It was a good win for us. Hopefully it will be the start of a good run.”

Despite the victory, United are still only seventh in the Premier League but Mata is optimistic they will finish higher.

He added: “If any club can come back and climb the table it is this club. We will try to win as many games as we can to the end of the season, hopefully all of them.”
