David Moyes believes club record buy Juan Mata will help Manchester United produce the free-flowing football he insists he demands.
United completed the 37.1 million-pound signing of the Spain international from Chelsea on Saturday and he could make his debut against Cardiff on Tuesday.
Moyes’ team have only scored 36 Premier League goals, 27 fewer than Manchester City, and Moyes has been criticised for his style of play.
But the Scot feels that the arrival of Mata, who scored 20 times in all competitions for Chelsea last season, will make United entertaining.
Moyes told MUTV: “I want to build an exciting team. That’s always the way I’ve wanted my football to be played and I’ve not known it any other way.
“I want to win and give the supporters something to shout about because I’ve not done that often enough.”
Mata has become Moyes’ second major recruit for United after Marouane Fellaini and the United manager believes there will be several more new faces at Old Trafford.
However, while he has bid for Southampton left-back Luke Shaw and hopes to sign a central midfielder, he claimed United might not do any more business until the end of the season.
He added: “What I will say is that this is the first of many more to come in time. I’m looking forward to Juan being the start of it.
“I don’t think we’ll have any more in January. I’m still working on it and looking to do things -- we know exactly what we’d like to do and if it changes in the last week, which sometimes it can do, then we’ll try. I hope it will be the first of some new signings that will arrive, but more likely in the summer.”
