Berisha to join Melbourne Victory

Brisbane Roar striker Besart Berisha will join A-League rivals Melbourne Victory at the end of the season.

Besart Berisha will join Melbourne Victory at the end of the season.

Berisha has been one of the league’s most lethal strikers in its short history, scoring 41 goals in 65 appearances for the Queensland club.

However, in recent times, the Albania international’s future with the two-time A-League champions has come under scrutiny, with the 28-year-olds contract due to expire at the end of the season.

A-League rival Sydney FC were thought to be chasing the striker’s signature, while a return to Europe was also mooted.

But on Wednesday, Victory coach Kevin Muscat confirmed the capture of the former Bundesliga striker.

"Besart has been performing at the highest level week-in, week-out for Brisbane and has caused plenty of headaches for opposition defenders and coaches, including myself," Muscat said.

"He’s a proven goal-scorer and a player that we can’t wait to welcome to Melbourne Victory.

"It’s certainly well documented how competitive Besart is, and that is something every A-League fan surely admires about him."
