Blackpool dismiss manager Paul Ince

Blackpool have sacked manager Paul Ince after less than a year in charge at Bloomfield Road.

Ince has won just four of his 14 games in charge of Blackpool to date
Ince was in charge at Bloomfield Road for less than a year.

Former England captain Ince has been dismissed along with assistants Steve Thompson and Alex Rae after a run of nine defeats in 10 games.

Blackpool, who were top of the Championship in September, have slipped to 14th, eight points above the relegation zone, and suffered a 2-0 defeat at bottom-placed Barnsley at the weekend.

Experienced midfielder Barry Ferguson, 35, a former Rangers and Scotland captain, has been put in caretaker charge.

Ince, 46, was appointed as Blackpool manager last February, a month after Michael Appleton left to join Blackburn, but won only 12 of his 42 games in charge of the Seasiders.

The former Manchester United, Internazionale and Liverpool midfielder was given a five-match stadium ban by the FA in October after being found guilty of violent conduct towards a match official.

Blackpool were also criticised for their disciplinary record when they had five players sent off in the space of two games at the start of December.

Ince did not deny claims last week that he drove his son Thomas, Blackpool’s top scorer, to London for a meeting about a proposed transfer to Monaco in the summer.

Thomas Ince, whose deal at Bloomfield Road expires at the end of the season, is able to negotiate with foreign clubs and rejected an eight million pound move to Cardiff last summer.

Paul Ince has had six spells in management, with two stints in charge of Milton Keynes Dons and one each at Macclesfield, Notts County, Blackburn and Blackpool.
