Anderson completes Fiorentina move

Fiorentina have completed the signing of Manchester United midfielder Anderson on loan until the end of the season.

The Brazilian arrived in Florence on Thursday before undergoing the obligatory medical check on Friday morning. On Saturday lunchtime, the Viola confirmed that the 25-year-old had followed Alessandro Matri and Antonio Rosati by joining until the summer.

"It is a good opportunity for him," said United manager David Moyes, anticipating the Italian club's announcement of the completion of a deal. "We've not been able to get him as many games as he'd hoped or we hoped we might get him."

Anderson joins a side challenging for a berth in the Champions League next season. The Viola are just five points behind fifth-placed Napoli and have added to their squad already this winter by signing striker Matri from AC Milan as cover for the injured Giuseppe Rossi.

German striker Mario Gomez is also on the verge of a return with the club's sporting director Daniele Prade on Thursday saying he will be back in action "imminently." Rosati has been drafted in from Sassuolo as cover for No. 1 goalkeeper Neto.

"Certainly this is a good squad," Rosati said at a news conference on Friday. "Juve, Roma and Napoli are all having great seasons, just like Fiorentina, and we're going to give it a go right to the end. I can't see any big differences between us and Napoli from last season."

Anderson, who has played just three times for the Red Devils this season, adds yet another dimension to Fiorentina while also still being eligible to help them in the Europa League. The Serie A side face Esbjerg in the last 32 and could meet league rivals Juventus in the last 16.
