George Weah keen to return to PSG

Paris Saint-Germain legend George Weah has revealed that he would be open to returning to the club.

• Klopp: Zlatan's 'joke offer' a good sign

Weah, 47, remains the only African to have been named FIFA World Player of the Year -- receiving the honour in 1995, a year in which he starred for PSG before moving to AC Milan.

The Liberian, who also won the African Footballer of the Year award three times during a glittering career, recently completed a master’s degree in public administration in the United States.

Weah is now keen to put what he has learned to good use with former club PSG and says he has discussed a role at the club with president Nasser al-Khelaifi.

“Why not?,” Weah told Le Parisien when asked about a return to the French capital. “Nasser is a friend.

“We’re talking about me coming to work with him in Paris but we’re still waiting to define what role I will have. It would be with great pleasure. I could be an advisor, a recruiter or work in any other role.”

PSG last season ended a 19-year wait for the Ligue 1 title that dated back to Weah’s time at the club.

But the former Liberia international says it is difficult to compare the current strike force of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Edinson Cavani to his partnership with David Ginola.

“David was a player full of imagination who worked for others and, when he crossed, it was a nice ball,” Weah said. “It’s not the same with Cavani. He works differently -- he’s not going to cross the ball for a striker.

“As for Zlatan and me, we have a different mentality and style. Normally he would be too tall to be a great player. He should be clumsy but, on the contrary, he’s technical and quick in his execution. I was faster than him and technical too. But you can’t compare me to Zlatan.”

The top scorer in the 1994-95 Champions League also revealed that he once again plans to stand for election as president of Liberia in 2017.

“In life, nothing is difficult for those who want to succeed,” Weah told Le Parisien. “When I said that I wanted to become a professional footballer, people thought I’d never make it.

“But I believed in myself and I dominated Cameroonian football [where he moved to first]. Then I went to Monaco and to Italy, which at the time was the strongest championship in the world, and I won the Ballon d’Or.

“There is therefore a possibility that I might become a great president of Liberia."
