Bayern impressed by Julian Green

Bayern Munich sporting director Matthias Sammer has praised Florida-born Julian Green as he is tipped to break into Pep Guardiola’s first-team plans.

Hesse: Lattek's legacy

German broadsheet Sueddeutsche Zeitung has named Green, 18, as one of the players to watch in the second half of the Bundesliga season.

He has so far played just five minutes for the Bayern first team, but there has been significant discussion of his potential in Germany, and he made an impression during the club’s winter training camp in Qatar, scoring in friendlies against Al-Merrikh and Al Kuwait.

“Julian has made a very notable development,” Sammer said in Sueddeutsche Zeitung. “He can play in every position in attack.”

Green had recently been linked with a temporary switch to Hamburg, but Bayern have no plans to loan out the player, who grew up in small Bavarian village called Miesbach.

Sammer insists that, despite the array of top international stars at the Allianz Arena, Green is capable of holding his own, saying: “He has integrated well.”

It remains unclear at this point where Green’s own international future lies. He is currently part of the Germany under-19 side, but he had earlier played for the U.S. under-18 side, and current USMNT coach Jurgen Klinsmann said last month he was still hoping to convince the forward to play for the country of his birth.

Sueddeutsche reports that Green has not yet made a firm decision, but is aware that Germany coach Joachim Loew has taken note of his potential.
